The Lottery

10-Minute Play

Five characters, any gender.

Jo opens the door to two officers who tell her she has been selected by the lottery.

Voters across her state have recently voted to choose at random people who will perform a difficult task people typically refuse because the weight of this duty lasts a lifetime.

Jo thinks this is a hoax. And, by the way, she did not vote for this lottery, which must be utterly unconstitutional. Nevertheless, the officers bring her to the station where she meets Alex, another chosen lottery “winner.” Except, in this case, Alex voted for the lottery.

Together Alex and Jo face the reality that someone’s life is in their hands.

Five characters, any gender.
